A vet has described judging a pet competition as a "heartwarming experience."
Charlotte Mayne, senior vet and practice principal at The Mayne Veterinary Clinic in Bergholt Road, was the judge for the Gazette's Essex's Cutest Pets competition.
The animal expert had the difficult task of deciding the finalists and ultimately the winners from our special supplement.
Ms Mayne said: "It has been such a heartwarming experience and I truly loved seeing all of the adorable entries.

"Our pets bring so much joy and happiness into our lives and it was fantastic to be part of a competition that reflects that love.
"That being said, it was no easy task. Every single pet was special in its own way, and I loved reading the comments to learn more about their unique personalities so choosing my favourites was much harder than I imagined."
She said she made her final choices based on the entries that "personally caught my eye," whether through their expressions, charm, or the personality that shone through in the written comments.

Among the entries, Ms Mayne highlighted several finalists, including Hudson the German Shepherd, described as a "gorgeous cuddly puppy," and Groot the Irish Wolfhound, a "gentle giant."
She also mentioned Chilli, a 16-year-old Bengal cat who showed "regal poise" while wearing a tartan bow tie.
She said: "The alternative pet category was definitely the most challenging as we had so many great entries of different pets.
"For Cutest Cat I selected beautiful Luna the Tortishell cat.
"I simply couldn't resist those intense, piercing green eyes and her striking markings.
"I can see why she's the hide and seek queen, she would be very well camouflaged."
The winner of the Cutest Dog category was Arnie the Toy Schnauzer.

She said: "Something about his face just captured my heart, what an absolutely delightful little chap."
In the Cutest Other Pet category, she chose Teddy the Mini Lop Rabbit.
She said: "He's not only cute and fluffy but I was won over by his special friendship withy his doggy best friend.
"There's something so heartwarming when two very different animals share such a special bond."
