A BELOVED village pub has been put up for sale for £1million.

The Bell, on the Street in Woodham Ferrers, near Chelmsford, is on the market.

Spanning more than 4,700 sq ft, the property is a detached two-storey public house with living accommodation on the first floor.

It has two bar areas and a function room, along with a beer cellar, kitchen, and toilets.

The living accommodation is made up of a one-bedroom apartment and a three-bedroom apartment.

Outside, the property has two vehicle entrances leading to a shingled car park, and a grass field of about 0.64 acres.

Agent Fenn Wright has said the property "may be suitable for development or other uses", subject to planning permission.

However, the Bell was recognised as an Asset of Community Value in 2017 after a successful campaign backed by residents and the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), reflecting its importance to village life in Woodham Ferrers.

The listing was intended to help protect the pub's future by giving the community greater opportunity to safeguard it should the owners ever decide to sell.

Facing the Main Road (B1418), the pub is around 3.8 miles from the A130.

South Woodham Ferrers railway station is about two miles away, providing services to London Liverpool Street via Wickford, with journey times from around 51 minutes.

The property has a rateable value of £2,800 and the council tax for the flat at The Bell falls within council tax band B.

In the property listing, a spokesperson for Fenn Wright said: "The Bell comprises a detached two storey public house with living accommodation on the first floor.

"Externally the property benefits from two vehicular accessways from the B1418 which lead onto the car park which has been laid to shingle.

"There are outbuildings to the east of the pub which have not been inspected."

The freehold interest in The Bell Inn is available for sale with vacant possession by way of private treaty.

When approached by this newspaper, the current owners declined to comment on the sale.
