A man has appeared in court charged in connection with a fatal crash in Purleigh.

Henry Barnes, 23, of Harrison Close, Brentwood, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and drink driving.

He appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, October 30, and is next due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on Friday, November 27.

The charges follow an investigation by Essex Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit into a single-vehicle crash on Hackmans Lane at around 2am on Monday, January 6.

His family attended court for the hearing.

In a tribute, they said: "Tom was a good and kind man who loved and protected the people in his life.
